School gives reassurance over bullying claims

An Exeter head teacher has defended his school against claims that it doesn't tackle bullying. The head of West Exe says it has a strong anti-bullying policy and plenty of support for pupils.

Earlier this month a mother was taken to court for removing her 13 year old daughter from West Exe - the parent claimed she'd been bullied and nothing had been done about it.
But its head Sonke Beyer says while he's aware that it happens, his perception is that the numbers involved are very small and incidents are tackled robustly.
He says he has colleagues who support pupils not just with bullying but other things that happen in their lives.
The school also recently won an Inclusion award which partly reflected the way it deals with bullying.
