Key management messages
Dear colleague
Thank you to everyone who took the time to complete the
recent Social Work Workforce Survey. We had feedback from 73% of you which is a
brilliant return rate and has helped us to get a much clearer picture of what
it’s like to be a social worker in Devon. The results have been analysed and
can be found in this edition of the bulletin alongside agreed actions in
response to the survey results. A further survey will be carried out later this
year.
Also in this bulletin we have an update on progress with our
response to the Lean Review recommendations, changes to CareFirst, and don’t
miss out on training for the new advocacy services in Devon.
And huge congratulations to our children in care and our care leavers, and those who worked with them, on a special Art Project aimed at exploring their dreams and aspirations showcased at national event in
London. The group took their work
to ‘Listen
Up’ 2014 in Westminster. This is the leading national event for children in
care and care leavers across England which brings together decision makers and
care professionals from around the UK. Read all about it!
Well done to everyone involved.

key messages from Professor Ray Jones, independent Chair
At the latest meeting Ray stressed,
once again, how important it is for partners to get to know social workers in
their area, as some are finding it difficult to identify social workers or key professionals.
Key messages this month include:
Staff Survey/workforce improvements - 73% of
our workforce completed the recent staff survey.
Health focus - good
work is taking place to make stronger connections with GPs and to improve
safeguarding and primary care practice.
CAMHS - there is continued pressure in the CAMHS service to meet the demand from new
referrals.

Embedding
permanence in practice
- Are
you familiar with Devon’s permanence strategy? How will it affect your
practice?
- What
are the elements to consider in planning permanence for a child?
- What
information can you gather that will help the child in later life to understand
their history?
- What
does good multi-agency work look like in planning permanence?
These and similar questions are being considered as
part of a new workshop being run across the county.
